Bucket List Bucket Truck

Written by admin on June 11, 2010 – 8:38 am -

Little did I know when I awoke this morning how high I was about to get.
Now the names have been changed in my story to protect the innocent and the guilty.
I am outside gardening (my passion) when I hear the up-close and personal sound of a chainsaw
http://www.youtube.com/watch v=6c2bSqfaJrU
Different chainsaw…I go round the back hedge to find Fred and Bob-hedge fun- guys. They are clearning out higher-than-a-kite2over-run wisteria, forsythia, unruly ivy, evil kudzu and a range of other overgrown brush. They are using a chainsaw but are traveling in a big shiny beautiful bucket truck. In an impulsive manner I asked immediately if I could ride in the bucket truck.
Wonder of wonder, miracle of miracles, Fred and Bob agreed. That was right after I slipped them the secret herb from my garden. Up and up and up and up. Mary Poppins you are so lucky.

Meeting similar crazies

Written by admin on June 1, 2010 – 6:33 pm -

Like the inmates in “One Flew Over the Cookoo’s Nest”, I enjoy the comraderie I feel when meeting new friends on my ISDN line. ISDN is an acronym for Integrated Services Digital Network- a souped-up phone line.

Today I worked with local friends - at a studio here in Birmingham, then to friends I barely know in North Carolina to friends I’ve yet to meet face-to-face in the hinterlands of who-knows-where.

I did two commercials for a business which is located out of town. The benefits are obvious-money in the mail for TALKING.
The persks are GREAT! Meeting “Crazies” like me.

Flaws

Written by admin on April 9, 2010 – 9:02 am -

In my line of work…talking or doing voice overs….being perfect, quick and accurate is important.

Along comes THE COMPUTER VOICE, and I don’t mean the robotic-sounding computer voice. This voice can sound real…almost fleshy.

I am not in a full panic mode yet, however.

My mother, Margaret used to compliment people who accidentally made a mark on a new piece of furniture. “You have just added a character mark,” she would say as if they had made the furniture more valuable.

Before I reach despondency, I remember the character marks -flaws, the imperfection factor, and I feel a bit more human. My flaws and imperfections help me feel less robotic and more artistic.

That is what I’m telling myself today.

SMA YES but NO Money in the Mail

Written by admin on April 4, 2010 – 3:23 pm -

SMA is our band’s acronym.  We call ourselves Shades Mountain Air, and we’ve played bluegrass  for 10 plus years now.  We have a tongue ‘n cheek song we like to perform called “Money in the Mail” by John R. Hadley.  Don Wendorf sings lead and plays mandolin for that number.

“That song will NOT be a part of our set list for the Friday night benefit!”, Don reminded us in practice.  The lyrics would not fit this benefit.”   Gary,  Greg, my husband & Lily and Hank’s dad, and me @NancyMcTalks - all agreed.

Here is the segment of the song in question:

Lily, our daughter planned this benefit for her club called “Just Us” .  www.justustoday.org is an organization combatting human trafficking here in Birmingham, Alabama.  She’ll be in the @BhamWeekly this Wednesday talking about this benefit.

Anyway, SMA would be happy to see you out at  for the event.

FEAR of TWITTER

Written by admin on April 2, 2010 – 2:30 pm -

Kicking and screaming, yet curious and excited, I attended my first lunch with Birmingham area twitter users - and kids too. We met at the Bottletree Cafe, @BottleTree, which serves a “mean” quinoa with tofu. Everyone was quite friendly and the discussions were interesting.

Here are the 2 main reasons I attended:

Randy Archer @RandyArcher - his upcoming nuptials (met love on Twitter)
Melissa @ccts -she has to tweet for her job at UAB in medical grant writing

Here are the 2 main reasons I have not tweeted more:

Pride and laziness

I don’t want to do anything wrong or stupid on twitter but you only learn from making mistakes
I just didnt want to take the time to learn all the lingo and manuevers
RT re-tweet #hashmarks la la la la

So I’m trying to get over
1. fear of being made fun of
2. laziness for blogging I do have a voice

Nancy McLemore, female voiceover talent with ISDN studio, tries her hand at a haircut. McLemore evokes many styles of commercials

Written by on August 27, 2008 – 10:11 pm -

With recent changes in my life, I decided to simplify and shorten my hair.  Not since I was four years old have I attempted such a feat of bravery.  The haircut was a success.divorce-a-hair-cut
